Why Pakistan Matters to Sikh Pilgrims

Punjab was never a single country in Sikh history, it was one land, later divided by a border. That border now separates Sikh pilgrims from some of the most sacred ground in their faith: the town where Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born, the fields where he farmed and passed away, and the rock at Hasan Abdal that still bears the imprint of his hand.

A Sikh pilgrimage tour Pakistan package isn't a sightseeing trip. It's a chance to complete a circuit of faith that has drawn Sikh sangat from across the world for over a century, long before Partition, and increasingly again since Pakistan restored formal access to these sites for international jathas. Every gurdwara on the trail carries a specific chapter of Guru Nanak's life, and walking it in sequence, birth, teaching, martyrdom, and final rest, is what makes this yatra unlike any other pilgrimage in Sikhism.

The Sikh Heritage Trail Gurdwaras You'll Visit

Our Nankana Sahib to Panja Sahib routes are built around key historic Gurdwaras, with additional heritage sites included depending on the itinerary selected.

Gurdwara Janam Asthan

This is where the journey begins. Gurdwara Janam Asthan marks the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and is a central destination of the Sikh pilgrimage route.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib

A visit to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib allows pilgrims to experience this important chapter of Sikh history as part of a wider Pakistan pilgrimage itinerary.

Gurdwara Panja Sahib

Located beside a natural spring near Hasan Abdal, Gurdwara Panja Sahib is associated with the sacred rock traditionally believed to bear the handprint of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Gurdwara Dera Sahib

Located near the Lahore Fort complex, Gurdwara Dera Sahib is associated with the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru.

frequently asked question

No. India suspended operations at the Kartarpur Corridor from its side in May 2025, following the Pahalgam attack and subsequent Operation Sindoor, and it remains closed “until further notice.” Pakistan has kept its side running and has called for the corridor to reopen, but the decision rests with Indian authorities. This does not affect the wider Gurdwara tour Pakistan from Lahore circuit, Kartarpur Sahib is still reachable as part of a full pilgrim visa yatra, just not through the visa free corridor crossing.

Yes, currently. With the Kartarpur Corridor closed, Indian Sikh pilgrims travel to Pakistan on group pilgrim visas issued under the 1974 India–Pakistan Protocol on Religious Pilgrimages, typically arranged through the SGPC for major occasions like Baisakhi and Guru Nanak’s Prakash Gurpurab. Demand has recently exceeded the standard visa quota, so early registration through your jatha organizer improves your chances of a confirmed seat.

Pilgrim jathas have continued to travel to Pakistan’s gurdwaras even during periods of tension between the two governments, and Pakistan has not restricted Sikh pilgrim access on its side. That said, cross border relations can shift quickly, so we recommend booking through an operator who monitors the current situation and can adjust plans if conditions change, and always following the guidance of your jatha leaders and local authorities once on the ground.

Overseas Sikh pilgrims apply for a standard pilgrim or tourist visa through the Pakistan High Commission or Consulate in their country of residence, separate from the India specific Kartarpur arrangement. This route has generally continued to operate even while the corridor has been closed. Requirements vary by country of residence, so confirm current documentation needs with us before booking flights.

Processing times vary by nationality, season, and whether you’re applying individually or as part of a registered jatha, and they tend to lengthen ahead of major gurpurabs when volumes spike. As a general rule, we advise starting the visa process at least 6–8 weeks before your intended travel dates, and earlier if you’re aiming to travel during Baisakhi or Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary period.

A focused visit to the four anchor gurdwaras, Nankana Sahib, Kartarpur, Panja Sahib, and Lahore’s Dera Sahib, can be done in 7 days without feeling rushed. If you want to add the wider circuit of secondary gurdwaras in Sialkot, Eminabad, and Lahore’s old city, our 9- or 10-day Sikh pilgrimage tour Pakistan package is a better fit.

Yes. While our 7-days, 9-days, and 10-days packages cover the most requested routes, we regularly adjust itineraries for group size, mobility needs, specific gurpurab dates, or a wish list of additional gurdwaras. Tell us your priorities and travel window and we’ll put together a tailored route.

Why Choose Eventica Travels
