Is Pakistan safe for foreign tourists?
Short Answer: The places our packages actually take you are among the more stable, well-patrolled parts of the country, and hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors travel through them every year without incident.
Government advisories from the US, UK, and similar sources typically place Pakistan in their second-highest caution tier, which understandably worries first-time visitors. What that rating doesn’t do is distinguish between border and conflict-affected districts and the tourist circuit Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and the Gilgit-Baltistan valleys (Hunza, Skardu, Fairy Meadows) where dedicated tourist police units, highway checkpoints, and years of steadily rising foreign arrivals tell a different story.
Gilgit-Baltistan in particular has built a strong track record with international trekkers and climbers, and foreign nationals are required to register with local authorities there a routine formality rather than a red flag.
Sensible precautions
- Stick to your guide's routing and use licensed transport.
- Register with local authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan as required.
- Carry copies of your documents.
- Take altitude seriously in the north on these trips, altitude sickness is a far more realistic risk than crime.
Areas near Balochistan, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa away from the tourist trail, and the Line of Control are excluded from our routes for exactly this reason.

The free VPA scheme is suspended
From January 1, 2026, Pakistan withdrew the no-cost, 24–48 hour Visa Prior to Arrival that had covered 126 nationalities since August 2024. No formal reason was announced.
